Software Engineers
VSP is looking for candidates well versed in Unix and C or C ++ programming languages. Experience with Windows operating environments, relational databases, and Internet programming is a big plus. Beneficial experience includes telecommunications, interactive voice response, project management, and customer contact.

Fluency in English is required as well as strong writing and communication skills. Technical degree preferable. Recent graduates with excellent credentials will be considered.

QA Analyst
The QA Tester is a member of the VSP Quality Assurance service team. This person will perform quality control functions on new software versions that are to be released to VSP clients.

Minimum Education Level
The skills normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree.

Requirements

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn, good work ethic, self-motivated and good initiative.
  • 1 to 2 years work experience in a computer related field a plus.
  • Knowledge of UNIX a plus.
  • Programming a plus

Responsibilities
  • Acquiring working knowledge of the functionality of VSP Software.
  • Testing with a drive to uncover defects.
  • Developing, maintaining and inputting test cases into a database.
  • Executing test cases.
  • Tracking errors and suggestions in a database.
  • Administrative tasks, e.g. updating database, report distribution.
  • Interacting productively with co-workers.
  • Effectively reporting to, and taking direction from, immediate management.
  • Effectively performing assigned tasks.

 

Unix/DBA Systems Administrator

Responsibilities
Administers, programs, installs and configures UNIX systems. Designs/implements complex local and wide-area networks of machines. Establishes/recommends policies on system use and services. Provides technical lead and/or supervises system administrators, system programmers, or others of equivalent seniority. Manages novice system administrators or operators. Evaluates and/or recommends purchases. Configures and maintains network file systems, routers, modem pool/terminal servers. Administers, programs, and maintains relational databases. Installs and maintains the network cabling, boards, memory, SCSI devices, and peripherals used at the site. Trouble-shoots and repairs computer systems.

Requirements

  • A degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Significant programming background in any applicable language.
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills, capable of training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal or external audience.
  • Is comfortable with most aspects of UNIX systems administration, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printing systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software.
  • A solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system, understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and completely.
  • Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them.
  • A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts.
  • Ability to program in an administrative language (Tk, Perl, a shell), to port C programs from one platform to another, and to write small C programs.
  • Experience with more than one UNIX-based operating system preferably with DEC Unix, UNIXWARE, SunOS. Experience with non-UNIX operating systems preferably MS-DOS, Windows ’95, Windows NT, and VMS). Extensive programming experience in an administrative language (Tk, Perl, a shell) and experience with the “C” programming language.
  • Experience using relational databases. Experience using a database query language. Experience programming in a database query language. Previous experience as a database administrator.

Sales Engineer
VSPD is looking for Sales Engineers to work closely with the international Comverse sales force. Sales Engineers are responsible for providing full service pre-sales technical support to sales people, including presentation support, proposal support, and training.

Sales Engineers have to be able to support Sales People in meetings with customers, by providing a technical presentation, listening to customer comments, and designing a draft architecture that meets customer needs - on the spot. Sales Engineers also provide an avenue for Sales People to ask technical questions and get technical training.

The most important characteristics for a Sales Engineer are broad based technical skills, good communications skills, imagination and flexibility. Hardware and networking experience would be advantageous, but are not an absolute requirement. An engineering degree is not required, though some form of technical degree (EE, MIS, CS, et al.) is preferred. Experience and presentation skills are more important than degree type.

Field Service Engineer
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for performing installation, servicing, and repair of VSPD systems at an advanced level, and serving as customer contact on technical and service-related problems.


Education Level
Minimum
The skills normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (or a related field), and three years of relevant technical experience.

Desired
The skills normally acquired through the completion of a Master of Science degree in Computer Science (or a related field), and two years of relevant technical experience.

Experience/Skills
· Experience in design, development and/or process engineering and fully capable of evaluating engineering design problems.
· Solid knowledge of C, C++ programming languages, and UNIX, and/or VMS operating systems.
· Good knowledge of DEC Alpha and Intel platforms.
· Experience with other programming languages, Microsoft Foundation Classes, and Windows Programming.
· Experience with systems support, software debugging, and problem troubleshooting.
· Ability to provide technical instruction to others.
· Must possess outstanding interpersonal and communications skills.
· Must possess a positive and mature attitude and present a professional appearance.
· Advanced degree of machine skills to operate computer equipment, peripherals and/or telecommunications equipment along with appropriate test equipment.
· Ability to get along with co-workers and supervisors.

Duties and Principal Activities

  1. Installs VSPD systems at customer locations; assists management and customers in determining needs and making installation arrangements.
  2. Logs, diagnoses and repairs VSPD system and/or subsystem problems using diagnostic tools and procedures; assists other Field Service Reps in equipment repair; keeps customer apprised of repair and service activity.
  3. Establishes and maintains effective customer relationships; communications with customer on a regular basis regarding equipment status; understands impact VSPD systems has on customer environment. Follows-up with customers regarding critical equipment problems.
  4. Interfaces and cooperates with VSPD R&D subject matter experts/product experts in resolution of problems.
  5. Receives occasional supervision; acts as lead worker and monitors progress.
  6. Schedules and performs consistent preventive maintenance to assure proper operating level on equipment.
  7. Performs complete checkout and test after repair to assure proper operating status.
  8. Responsible for proper maintenance of assigned tools and test equipment. Complies with all management directives within specified time frame. Protects proprietary and confidential company information.
  9. Assists in the development and delivery of training programs for less experienced employees.
  10. Prepares and submits accurate status reports; maintains logs and documentation on equipment and repair activity.
  11. Works very independently. May assume supervisory responsibilities in absence of manager; works closely with manager on a regular basis regarding technical operations, workload, customer situations, and changes in policy and procedures; seeks added responsibilities within realm of position.

Travel Requirements
Available to travel internationally on short notice in support of VSPD system implementation and/or support.
